Paper Towns is about a boy who imagines a girl as being his dream girl, even referring to her as a “miracle.” He sees her as quirky and different and not like other girls and thinks he’s in love with her. He doesn’t view her as a complex human being and disrespects her existence.
At the end, he realizes that he’s viewing her as a fantasy instead of a person. He realizes that he’s disrespecting her by not thinking about her as a complex human being. Literally the entire theme of the book is that you shouldn’t romanticize other people (especially in romantic relationships) The theme if this book is killing the idea of the “manic pixie dream girl”
But people on here will still act like it’s some pretentious, misogynistic love story when it isn’t. I’m tired of people on this website purposely viewing things incorrectly just so you have something to be mad about.
